On the first day of the Summer School of Forensic Psychology at the Faculty of Organizational Studies “Eduka”, participants had the opportunity to attend a lecture on the topic “Specifics of Prison Psychologist Assessment”, delivered by Assistant Professor Dragana Mitrić Aćimović, lecturer in Psychology Studies at FOS “Eduka” and at the Faculty of Applied Sciences of the University of Donja Gorica.
Through a case study and experiences gained during almost eight years of work within the prison system, Dr. Mitrić Aćimović presented to participants the role of psychologists in assessing the risk of criminal recidivism and escape, assessing the risk of suicide and victimization in penal settings, determining appropriate treatment for convicted persons, as well as evaluating their readiness for early release.
Particular interest was sparked by topics that are rarely covered within academic courses — what it is like when a prison colleague becomes an inmate, as well as how professional assessments are made in situations where there is insufficient time for the application of psychological tests.
The first day of the Summer School brought numerous professional insights, open discussion, and an opportunity for participants to learn firsthand what the work of a prison psychologist looks like, as well as the advantages and challenges of this responsible and dynamic profession.
