At the Faculty of Organizational Studies “Eduka”, as part of the Summer School of Forensic Psychology, an insightful and professionally oriented lecture was delivered by Predrag Kuzmanović, a psychologist from the Correctional Facility in Sremska Mitrovica, on the topic “Treatment of Inmates in Prison”.
The lecture introduced participants to one of the key areas of forensic psychology and penological practice — working with convicted individuals within the correctional system. Through a clearly structured presentation, psychologist Kuzmanović discussed contemporary challenges in inmate treatment, the role of professionals in the rehabilitation process, and the importance of psychological work in the successful reintegration of convicted persons into the community.
Special emphasis was placed on the purpose of treatment, which is not limited solely to the execution of a sentence, but also focuses on creating conditions for behavioral change, developing responsibility, improving social skills, and reducing the risk of reoffending. Participants had the opportunity to understand how complex the treatment of inmates is, requiring an individualized approach, continuous risk assessment, and cooperation between various professional services within correctional institutions.
The lecture presented different levels and modalities of work with convicted individuals. Particular attention was given to individual treatment approaches, which are adapted to each inmate’s psychological profile, needs, behavior, and level of risk, as well as group treatments aimed at developing social skills, anger management, behavior modification, and strengthening responsibility through structured work in controlled environments.
Psychologist Kuzmanović also highlighted the importance of professionally guided treatment in preventing recidivism, emphasizing that quality psychological work within the prison system can play an important role in reducing the risk of repeated criminal behavior. The lecture enabled participants to gain a clearer understanding of the real challenges of working in a prison environment, as well as the opportunities that forensic psychology provides in the process of rehabilitation and resocialization of convicted individuals.
This lecture represents another significant contribution to the Summer School of Forensic Psychology program, as it enabled participants to connect theoretical knowledge with practical experiences from the correctional system and gain a deeper understanding of the responsible role of psychologists in inmate treatment.
